Please leave a note here if you'd like to meet up for a drink on the Thursday evening.Responses:
- Brian Kelly - would like a decent real ale pub (possibly The City Tavern (off the far end of Broad Street - see directions from station),
- Count me in - Steven Warburton
- Pub, drink? Sounds good - Phil WIlson
- Sounds good to me - Ian St John
- Won't be with you on Thursday eveing, but a few suggestions - near the Cathedral in Temple Row you've got the Joint Stock (Fullers conversion of a bank), behind it is the Wellington (reputed to be a mini-beer festival) plus a Wetherspoons (somewhere about here) or for something a bit different try the Bartons Arms out towards Aston (about here where they also have an extensive Thai food selection available (use of taxi recommended!). Just off Board Street (which has several pubs including another Weatherspoon) there is the canal side Tap and Spile - Gary Clay

Sadly I won't be there Thursday evening, but have a great time. If you don't mind a short (10 - 15 minutes) bus/cab ride out of the city centre the Prince of Wales in Moseley was always my favourite when I lived in Birmingham. I believe it's reputation is still very good and the ales are well kept. A number of good balti houses close by too.
My favourite in the city centre (the real ale bar of the Midland Hotel) is sadly no longer there. |

Hope you find somewhere good to meet. I'm close enough to Brum to find it more convenient to commute, and far enough away not to be able to recommend anywhere to go! So feel free to mark my comment as "not helpful", if you want the exercise. (However, in suggesting this, is my comment helpful? The dilemma is yours!)
